ABOUT THE CHAMBER
Founded in 1926, the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce is recognized as
one of the region's leading business associations, dedicated to fostering
a thriving, well-balanced community. As stated in our mission statement,
"the Chamber advocates common business interests, fosters and promotes
a healthy, competitive business climate and enhances the quality of life
in Walnut Creek."
Of thousands of chambers
in the United States, Walnut Creek is one of only 500 accredited by the
U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Walnut Creek Chamber was recognized for
meeting rigorous, high standards of performance in planning and programming
and for conducting a well-balanced, productive program of work.
The Chamber is lead
by a dedicated staff and supported by an army of active volunteers. It
is governed by a 20-member board of directors, which is responsible for
the goals, policy and direction of the organization.
At the heart of the
Chamber are 22 committees and a variety of task forces, each focused on
a specific area, such as education, technology, networking and civic affairs.
These committees spearhead the events and programs that reflect the Chamber's
pride.
Like the community
itself, many of the Chamber's activities are educational. They include
forums on political issues, assisting local schools, job assistance for
youths and adults, business networking, and civic events including the
annual Art and Wine festival, which was recently voted the East Bay's
best outdoor festival.
The Chamber also coordinates
Leadership Contra Costa, an accelerated program geared to develop leadership
potential within the Contra Costa community. Many of the graduates of
the program have gone on to key positions in the state assembly, city
councils and various boards of directors.
Each year, many job
seekers receive valuable assistance from the Chamber's twice monthly Job
Forum. Human resource experts from Chamber businesses share their insights,
techniques and knowledge with people in job transitions.
